However, there are still environments where you may find you struggle, even when using hearing aids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/products\/databriefs\/db414.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">percentage of adults with hearing difficulties<\/a>, even when using a hearing aid, increased with age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One specific area of difficulty can be large public events, where background noise can make it difficult. Telecoil acts as a receiver that picks up electromagnetic signals from hearing loop systems. Hearing loop systems consist of a sound source (such as a public address system), an amplifier, a loop of wire (hearing loop) and the telecoil. Using loop systems can help transmit sounds from a public sound system directly into your hearing aids or cochlear implant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where Can I Use Telecoil?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally, telecoil technology was developed to improve the clarity of phone calls for people with <a href=\"https:\/\/amarillohearing.com\/hearing-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hearing loss<\/a>. However, it was expanded to be used in hearing loop systems and now can be found at places like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Public transportation locations like airports and bus stations<\/li><li>Theaters<\/li><li>Convention centers like the Amarillo Civic Center Complex<\/li><li>Auditoriums<\/li><li>Places of worship<\/li><li>Lecture halls<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can usually find information online about whether or not a space you are going to has hearing loop systems and\/or telecoil capability. They will also have signs on the premises to let visitors know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sign will be a white outline of an ear on a blue background with a large white line running diagonally through the ear. If there is a \u201cT\u201d in the lower right corner, that means that it will work with your hearing aid\u2019s telecoil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does My Hearing Aid Have It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all hearing aids have telecoils. Specifically, smaller hearing aids that fit completely within the ear canal don\u2019t have enough space within the device.
